Defending champions Abahani flew in Indian cricketer Amol Muzumdar on Tuesday to bolster their batting line-up ahead of their crucial Dhaka Premier Cricket League tie against star-studded Gazi Tanks.
Abahani and Gazi Tanks, respectively led by Masharfee bin Murtaza and Mohammad Ashraful, Bangladesh’s two IPL signatories in the season, will square off today at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in a second round match of the league.
Bangladesh Biman, who defeated Tanks in the opening round, will take on Young Pegasus while Mohammedan Sporting Club will play against Partex Sporting Club in the other two matches of the day.
Mumbai-based Muzumdar, who had played in Bangladesh’s domestic cricket league in the late 1990s, will be replaced by his compatriot Venu Gopal Rao from the third round, said Abahani official Jalal Yunus.
‘We have brought him (Muzumdar) for just one game as Rao is not available at the moment. He will join us shortly and will probably play in all the remaining first leg matches,’ said Yunus.
Abahani’s first-choice overseas player was Sri Lankan batsman Thilina Kandamby, who had initially agreed to play but later regretted after he made it to the best XI of the Sri Lanka team recently.
