Symington takes on archery role: | |
Former Olympic cyclist Sara Symington will lead Great Britain's bid for archery medals at London 2012 after being named as performance director. The 39-year-old, who competed in Sydney and Athens in 2000 and 2004, will take up her new role next month. Since ending her cycling career, she has worked as a performance advisor within the UK Sport set-up. Symington said that in joining Archery GB, she hoped to "deliver medal success at 2012 and beyond". She added: "I will be working closely with everyone at the performance unit to make sure that our archers can continue to assert themselves at the highest level of competition, and hopefully moving up to even higher levels of performance, consistency and achievement." Britain's archery team failed to win any medals at last summer's Beijing Olympics, but fared better at the Paralympics with four medals, including golds for John Stubbs and Danielle Brown. The archery competition in 2012 will be staged at Lord's cricket ground, a world famous sporting venue. |
