NFL great Favre decides to retire

Favre is the NFL's all-time leader in touchdowns (464), completions (5,720), attempts (9,281), yards (65,127), wins (169) and interceptions (310). The quarterback, 39, - three times voted NFL Most Valuable Player - spent 16 years with the Green Bay Packers After reversing a retirement decision in March 2008 he moved to the Jets but failed to lead them to the play-offs and said: "It's time to leave." Favre added: "It's been a wonderful career, I couldn't ask for anything more. "It was worth a shot for me to go to New York. I wish I could've played better down the stretch. I didn't." Struggling with a shoulder injury late in the season, Favre threw only two touchdown passes and nine of his league-high 22 interceptions as the Jets lost four of their last five games to squander a play-off spot. Jets owner Woody Johnson praised Favre for his spell at the club. "Considering that he came from a totally different environment and joined our team during training camp, his performance last season was extraordinary," said Johnson. "As I spoke with people throughout the organisation, they all told me how much they enjoyed working with him. "Brett Favre is a Hall of Fame player, but he is also a Hall of Fame person."
